Best SEO Tools to Improve Google Rankings

Every website owner or a blogger always wishes to rank their content on Google’s top page. But, this wish remains unfulfilled unless you use one or more features of these tools. Apart from these tools, you need to apply some tactics like the speed of your site/ blog, security, Submission in search console etc. These are the basic requirements for SEO.

In the old days, it was easy to rank your content with easy tips and tricks, but now due to high competition, you need to use further measures to get your content ranked on search engines. Neil Patel, a professional blogger, and SEO expert talks about the ratio of population and blogs. There is one blog for every 7 people.

Imagine the competition now. There are billions of blogs today and everyone are creating contents. There is millions of article over the same keyword. So, why should Google rank your content if there are similar other contents? You need to provide a convincing answer. The answer to that question is “Quality”.

No matter how long your article is, if your article is of less value to the audience, you will never rank it. Mark these lines and go along with me. Furthermore, you need to be smart. Hard work doesn’t pay you, Smart work does. What do smart people do? They research, write and use a number of SEO tools.

You can rank your article, even if an article similar to yours has already been published. How? You will be doing the same thing but in a different way. You will create blog posts, contents on the same keyword, but in a more tricky and interesting way. Now, these SEO tools will help you follow those tricks of ranking.

This article regarding best SEO tools has been created in a series of multiple blog posts for technical and SEO issues. So, you need to refer these links for a complete list of SEO tools.

1. Best SEO tools in 2019 (You are here)
2. More SEO tools.

SEMrush
SEMrush is one of the powerful and best website analysis tools. One main specialty of SEMrush is that you can analyze any domain and check its keywords ranking in any country easily.

Using Ahrefs, you will be able to access the features like Competitive analysis, Keyword research, backlink research, content research, rank tracking, site explorer, site audit, domain comparison, batch analysis, link checker, SERP analysis, Backlink checker and web monitoring etc.

4. Google keyword planner:

Google keyword planner is one of the best free tools for keyword research. It helps to know the search volume of a particular keyword, average monthly search and competition difficulty for that keyword.

In order to use this free tool, it is necessary that you have a Google Adwords account. You can't simply access this tool with a direct link.

Don't get thoughtful while you read "Adwords account". You don't need to create any paid campaign on your AdWords account. Create an Adwords account with your Gmail id and log in with the same credentials. On the top, find the 'Wrench icon".
Google keyword planner
When you click that tools icon, then you will find a handful of tools on your screen. You need to choose 'Keywords planner', your desired tool for keyword research.

Google keyword planner
After that, you will be taken to another screen where you need to select one of the options. Choose 'Find keywords'.

Google keyword planner
As soon as you select that option, you will be prompted to type in any page URL or keyword or a key phrase to learn about. Type in any word that you want to research. That will be your seed keyword.

Google keyword planner
In the above screenshot, as you can see that I have typed "Samsung smart switch" as a seed keyword. Then I got the above metrics with more than 300 keyword ideas. See the search volume of the phrase. It is very high and the competition is also low enough to rank an article upon that phrase.

Similarly, the keyword planner suggested me more keywords with each of their metrics regarding volume, CPC, Competition, Average monthly searches, impression share, and bid. If you want to earn revenue, work on those keywords which have high CPC and if you want to earn traffic, work on those keywords which have low competition.

Likewise, you can always filter the search results to get more related metrics. Like you can only have those keyword ideas which have low competition or only those which have a good CPC. Just set your range and apply filters to dive into the ocean of related keywords.

You can also download all those keywords or metrics into your PC as a CSV file (Comma Separated Value) which can be opened using MS-Excel. You can refer to those keywords later in the future.

Do you use the Keyword Planner to help you come up with keyword ideas? Comment below.

5. Keyword Tool.io:

Keyword-Tool
This tool is an alternative to Google keyword planner. Keyword Tool will help you discover thousands of new keywords, keyword ideas and long-tail keywords related to any topic by automatically generating Google's search suggestions.

This tool suggests the keywords based on the Google domain and the language chosen by you. This tool uses the Google autocomplete algorithm and produces thousands of new long-tailed keywords. The autocomplete algorithm of Google is based on how the users' search has remained since the past.

Similarly, you can also get the search data from YouTube, Bing, Amazon, eBay, Play Store, Instagram, and Twitter. One can use the free version of this tool using API login and also use the pro version with a paid upgrade. Furthermore, you can analyze the search volume data for your list of keywords and also analyze your competitors' keyword using this SEO tool.

What else do you need? Have you ever used Keyword Tool before? Please comment.

6. Google Webmaster tools:

Google-webmaster

By using Search console option of Google Webmaster tools, you can submit your sitemap to Google and know the indexing and crawl status of all your posts and pages.

You will also be able to know and fix the crawl issues and know the crawl rate status and internal and external links of your blog.

In fact, every blogger or a website owner should first submit their site to the webmaster and submit their sitemap as well as the first step of optimizing your site for search engines. A sitemap is a file which contains information about the posts, pages, videos, and other contents on your site, and the relationships between them. When you submit this file to search console, you are allowing them to crawl that information and show up on search results whenever someone somewhere searches for that kind of information.

No matter what keywords you use or how many backlinks you create, you won't be able to rank any of your pages in the organic search result unless you add your website and submit a sitemap in the webmaster search console.

In order to do that, you need to verify your site ownership first, and then submit your sitemap to Google Search console.

Also note that there are other search engines like Bing, Yandex, Yahoo, AOL etc where you need to submit your sitemap for better results. Let your site be found in all the top search engines and by doing that, you will increase your traffic by more volume.

7. Google Page Speed Insights:

This tool helps you to check your website loading speed. Why check site loading speed? A simple relation between ranking and speed is that, when you have slow site loading speed, your visitors will have to wait for a longer time, when your visitors don't want to wait, they will skip to another site and your bounce rate will increase which will ultimately affect your site's SEO resulting in low ranking of your website/blog.

So, you would always want to check your site speed and correct if it is loading slow. Your site may be loading slowly because of unnecessary files, bulk-sized images, heavy contents, excess cache files, too many WordPress plugins, poor hosting server etc. So, these things will rank your site down.

How to check your site's loading speed with  Google Page Speed Insights? See the screenshot below for better understandings:

1. Got to Google Page Speed Insights. On the screen, you will see the area to enter your site address. Enter the site's address along with https://.
Google Page Speed Insights
2. Then hit Analyze. After a few seconds, you will get all the analysis results. It will show the speed score of your site in a range of 0 to 100, where near to 100 is a better score. It will show the field data, origin summary, lab data of load time, opportunities data (shows you the areas of focus on optimizing your site's speed), diagnostics and passed results.

That way, you can easily know where to focus on in order to speed up your website. The best part, it is free.

However, there are some other tools as well to check your site's speed. Check these tools at your own risk:
Have you ever checked your website's speed before? Please comment.

8. Google Analytics:

Google_Analytics_2019

Another tool from Google to analyze your website/ blog's performance. Using this tool, you can always see what are your top performing posts and URLs, top performing keywords, traffic status, bounce rate, post impressions etc.

In a nutshell, you will always be able to monitor your site's performance using Google analytics. After you find your top performing posts and keywords, you can always decide to work on those keywords in details to rank higher. When you know your page impressions, you can decide on which page to focus more.

Learning more about your bounce rate will help you to choose what strategy to use in order to lower down your bounce rate, attracting and engaging your audiences, making more interactions and interlinking more useful articles within your blog.

9. Google Trend:

Another free tool from Google again. By using this SEO tool, you can easily find what the world is searching and what searches were trending in the past years in a particular geo/ Country.

No one knows better than Google as it is the largest and most popular search engine in the world. So, this is how you can know more about the topic you want to write using Google trends; You pick a topic/ keyword, go to Google Trends and type in that keyword to see its trends and stats.

You will then get the results for that keyword in the location that you set. If you want traffic from another location, you can set it to that location and see the trends again. You can also see how that keyword has performed in the past 7 days, past 30 days, past 12 months or past several years. If you want to narrow down the results, you can select the category and search again.

Likewise, if you want to find the statistics regarding image search or youtube search, then you can define that in the web search section.

Another advantage of using this tool is that you can compare one keyword with another to find out which performed better and help you forecast which keyword might work best. See the screenshot below;
Google_trends
As you can see that I have compared 4 different keywords to analyze which can perform better. I was indifferent on these four topics to create an article:
  1. Start a blog
  2. Start a website
  3. Create a blog
  4. Create a website
All these 4 keywords are similar in meaning, so by finding out what has trended in the past, I can plan for the next blog article in the future. In all the past 12 months, the keyword "create a website" has outranked all other keywords (the green curve). So, the same keyword might rank on the top this year too. So, now I can confidently create a blog post on the topic "create a website".

There are other things for an SEO practitioner to do using this SEO tool and you can explore more by using it.

Have you ever used Google Trends before? How has it helped you? Please comment.

10. SimilarWeb:

Another good website as an SEO tool to analyze your competitor's statistics and by using reverse strategies, you can always apply those methods to rank your blog/ website. Now, using this site can solve your problem of finding your competitors because it also shows the similar other sites for the site address to entered to analyze.

See the screenshot below:
similar-web-seo-tool
When I searched for setopati.com, a news website in Nepal, I got the following stats regarding that site:
  • Global rank.
  • Country rank.
  • Category rank
  • Traffic overview
  • Traffic according to countries
  • Traffic sources
  • Total traffic
  • Referer's details
  • The volume of search traffic/ organic traffic
  • Number of social shares and engagements
  • Display advertisings
  • Website contents like sub-domains, folders, popular pages
  • Interest of audiences
  • Related mobile apps
  • Competitors and similar other sites like Setopati.
A bulk metrics, isn't it? Download all that info on your PC as a pdf file. Now when you have all the information, dive into their popular pages and extract all the strategies and use it for your own blog to rank. If it works for them, then it will work for you too.
similar-web-seo-tool-2

Another thing you can do on SimilarWeb is that you can compare multiple sites/ blogs and apply measures to beat those competitors. Here I have compared two such news sites to get the metrics. You can compare your own with another competitor. Also, you can compare multiple sites but for that, you need to sign up for the Similar web.

However, you can get a lot of solutions even with their free plan. If you need the Chrome extension of SimilarWeb, then here is the link.

What do you think about this SEO tool? Please comment.

I needed to create a series post regarding best SEO tools because it has already been lengthy. I hope you can understand the effort I have made to come up with this article. If you can give this post a share in your social platform, I would be grateful for your helpful effort.
